Prison Island, also known as Changuu Island, is located just off the coast of Stone Town and offers a unique blend of history and nature. Originally intended to house a prison in the late 19th century, the island was later used as a quarantine station.

Today, Prison Island is best known for its famous giant Aldabra tortoises, some of which are over a century old. These gentle creatures were a gift from the Seychelles and now live freely on the island.
