Tarangire National Park

Overview

Tarangire ranks as the 6th largest national park in Tanzania, covering about 2,600 square kilometers. It’s best known for its large elephant herds and a mini-wildlife migration that happens in the dry season, when roughly 250,000 animals enter the park. The park’s name comes from the Tarangire River, which runs through it.

Getting There

– There’s an airstrip at Kuro in the center of the park with daily scheduled flights to all major safari destinations in Tanzania.
– The drive from Arusha to the Main Gate in the north is on a good road and takes about 1½ hours, which is why many safaris start from there.
